- Stone: Sterling Opal is manmade synthetic Opal. It has the same composition as natural opal except it is made in a laboratory. All color is from natural refraction. No dyes are used to make or enhance the color of these opals. This makes the opals similar but different just like natural opal with veins and patterns and different light reflection patterns.
